The epic "The Legend of Maula Jatt" by Bilal Lashari broke the previous record for a Punjabi-language film produced in Pakistan during its first weekend worldwide. On October 13, the action-fantasy film, which is a remake of the cult Punjabi classic Maula Jat from 1979, was released.
The Legend of Maula Jatt's weekend premiere surpassed box office records, as reported in a recent piece by Deadline. Just over
$500,000 was made from the movie in Pakistan. It earned
$355,000 across
79 locations in the
United Kingdom, propelling it to
No. 9 on the ranking. The movie made
$290,000 and
$235,000, respectively, in the
US and Canada, and
$160,000 in Australia. The movie debuted at
No. 6 in both Canada and Australia and at
No. 1 in The United Arab Emirates, grossing over
$515,000 there.
The movie had its premiere in 25 different countries throughout the world, including Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and South East Asia. The movie made $2.3 million worldwide overall (equal to approximately PKR 51cr). IMDb reports that the 2018 Pakistani Urdu comedy Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 (Youth Won't Come Again 2), which was directed by Nadeem Baig, held the previous record when it earned $331,048 at the international box office. The creators disclosed that because of increased demand, theatres had added additional showings all throughout the week.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is a remake of Maula Jat (1979), and it centres on a prizefighter who challenges Noori Natt, the most infamous warrior in the Punjab region (Hamza Ali Abbasi). In his quest for vengeance against his adversary, the fighter Maula Jatt (Fawad Khan) discovers that the price of truth, justice, and honour may split families apart. Mahira Khan (as Mukhoo Jattni), Humaima Malik (as Daaro Nattni), Gohar Rasheed (as Maakha Natt), and Shafqat Cheema also appear in the movie (Jeeva Natt). The movie's VFX supervisor was Brian Adler, who has also worked on Avatar: The Way of Water (due out later this year) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).The movie is made by Encyclomedia and Lashari Films in collaboration with AAA Motion Pictures, and Moviegoers Entertainment is in charge of its international distribution. On October 13, the movie had its Pakistani premiere.
